Restorative Dentistry in San Francisco

san francico Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry is an umbrella term to describe dental treatments that rebuild or rehabilitate damaged or decayed teeth. Restoring the look, feel and function of natural teeth is crucial to dental health (and, in a greater sense, overall health). Depending on the needs of the patient, restorative dentistry procedures can be complex, so it is important to work with a dentist that has the skill and experience necessary. Trusted dentist Dr. Samir Ayoub offers a range of restorative dentistry procedures at his San Francisco practice.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to close the gap left by one or more missing teeth. Closing the gap left by missing teeth prevents a variety of adverse effects; for example, the other teeth may shift around in the mouth, the bite can change and the facial structures can collapse (in extreme cases). Dental bridges are important for restoring normal appearance and reducing the risk of serious dental problems. There are a few different kinds of dental bridges, but they all rely on the surrounding teeth for support. Depending on the type of bridge used, the appliance may attach to one tooth on either side of the gap or to two teeth on the same side of the gap.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are designed for teeth that are severely cracked, decayed, worn down (from tooth grinding) or otherwise damaged. Also called caps, these restorations slip over the compromised tooth to cover it in its entirety. By adding strength and support, crowns save these teeth from further damage and restore a normal appearance. They can also be used to cover a tooth with a large filling, or to anchor a dental bridge. Today’s crowns are crafted from life-like materials and custom-matched to the surrounding teeth for a seamless result.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are unique from bridges and crowns in that they replace the entire structure of the tooth, including its root. These restorations have three parts: a titanium post that is surgically placed in the jawbone, an artificial tooth (typically a crown) that sits above the gum line and a piece that connects the two. Dental implants are the most stable and long-lasting tooth replacement available, and have a very high success rates.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

A full mouth reconstruction is a multi-step treatment that rebuilds all of the teeth in the upper and lower jaw. Sometimes mistaken with the elective smile makeover, full mouth reconstruction is prescribed in serious cases where chewing and speaking ability is badly affected.
